Mobile Systems

In a number of studies we have gathered requirements on consumption of multimedia content with a special focus on the mobile domain. We have taken a comprehensive approach eliciting quantitative and qualitative data on user equirements in this highly constrained environment.

In a joint effort with the University of Bologna we have found out about preferred zooms for extreme long shots in e.g. football content. We looked at the effects of miniaturization on different shot types. Encoding bitrates and size requirements of different content types with a low-overhead method called acceptability. We compared our to other methods both objective (VQM) and subjective results e.g. MOS and have carried out both lab studies and field studies to test the ecological validity of our results.

We are currently investigating minimal requirements of mobile TV content in terms of angular resolution and angular size.
